OCHA coordinates, leads and advocates improved humanitarian action. From 35 offices around the world, some 1,900 specialized and dedicated OCHA staff work to ensure that effective assistance reaches millions of humanitarian beneficiaries on four continents. OCHA exists to make emergency response quicker and more effective.

OCHA''s mission is to mobilize and coordinate effective and principled humanitarian action in partnership with national and international actors in order to alleviate human suffering in disasters and emergencies; advocate for the rights of people in need; promote preparedness and prevention; and facilitate sustainable solutions.

Member States created OCHA to help bring order to international humanitarian efforts. OCHA supports national-led response to disaster-affected countries in their greatest hour of need, and helps those countries ensure that affected populations are assisted and protected. OCHA helps limited funding go further.

Issues in focus highlights current and emerging issues of global significance for people affected by humanitarian crises and for those who work to prevent and respond to such crises. Issues are presented through analytical or policy information, personal stories from the field, videos and audio content, and photo galleries.
